A Day of Fun, Competition, and Charity
Merle's Wish is thrilled to share the highlights of our Annual Golf Day 2024, an event that surpassed all expectations and brought together an incredible community of supporters. With a higher turnout than last year, the day was a resounding success, and we are immensely grateful to everyone who participated and supported our cause.
The weather was on our side, with the sun breaking through just as we teed off, despite the heavy rain the night before. This set the stage for a fantastic day on the green, free from rain, allowing our players to enjoy their game to the fullest.
This year's competition was intensely close, culminating in an exciting three-way tie. The talented players in the tie-off were Luke Williams, Jay Williams, and Kieran Mayher. Their skill and determination were evident as they faced off in a one-hole competition to decide the winner.
In a thrilling conclusion, Jay Williams emerged victorious, earning the top prize of £100 and the coveted winning shield, following in the footsteps of his father, Kirk Williams, who won in 2023. Kieran Mayher secured second place, receiving a trophy and a £50 voucher sponsored by Travel by Inspire. Luke Williams, who played exceptionally well, took third place, winning a trophy and a £25 voucher, also sponsored by Travel by Inspire.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our resident bookmaker for their support and to Highley Golf Course for generously reducing their course fees for the day. We also want to express our appreciation to everyone who travelled far and wide to join us.
The day was not only about competition but also about camaraderie and sportsmanship. The friendly banter and shared enthusiasm among participants made the event truly special.
We are delighted to announce that we raised a remarkable £1435 in total, which will go a long way in supporting our charitable efforts. This achievement is a testament to the generosity and commitment of our wonderful community.
Looking ahead, we are excited to announce that next year's Annual Golf Day will be held on 4th May, the eve of Merle's birthday. We hope to see even more of you there, ready to make it another memorable and impactful event.
